Home Education Resource Information

Home education requests are processed by the Brown County Educational Service Center. Requests are processed for Fayetteville Perry Local School District, Western Brown Local School District, Eastern Brown Local School District, and Ripley Union Huntington Local School District.

Completed notification forms are forwarded to the Brown County Educational Service Center for review, per the requirements of the state of Ohio for home education.

Notification should be provided no later than the first week of the start of the public school building the child would attend in the school district of residenceor within one week from the child's withdrawal from a school.

 Incomplete or improperly completed forms will cause a delay in the process.

Please note: Failure to notify the school district of residence the family is homeschooling its child or children will result in truancy.

Parents agree to:

1. Provide 900 hours of instruction per year;

2. Notify the superintendent every year; and

3. Provide an assessment of the students work, this link:

Student Absence Intervention

The Brown County Educational Service Center provides and supports Brown County student attendance policies. The Brown County ESC coordinates, and fully supports both the juvenile court staff and school district staffs.  Brown County Attendance officers provide support for Brown County schools with the implementation of House Bill 410 mandates, and all compulsory attendance related issues. The mission of the Brown County Educational Service Center Support Services Section is to advance student success and help close equity gaps by reducing chronic absence. Residency verifications are also provided as a component of student absence Intervention.
